Yellamma, also known as Renuka, is believed to be the wife of Sage Jamadagni and the mother of Parashurama, one of the ten avatars of Vishnu. According to Hindu mythology, Renuka was a devoted wife and mother known for her purity and strength. However, she faced unfortunate circumstances leading to her transformation into the goddess Yellamma, revered as a symbol of resilience and compassion. Her story is rooted in sacrifice, endurance, and the goddess’s willingness to provide blessings to those who face adversity. Yellamma Temple, also known as Renuka Devi Temple, is situated on top of a hill near Saundatti in Karnataka. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Yellamma or Renuka Devi. The temple is mainly visited by pilgrims from Karnataka, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh.Shri Yellamma Devi Fair, celebrated for about 5 times between October and February, is a major draw. Yellamma jatra, which takes place on the full moon day known as 'Bharat Hunnime', attracts thousands of devotees from far and near. During the jatra, Yellamma is worshipped complete with all its attendant rituals, as in the manner of 'Shakti Puja'.

Sri Shidlingappa's fair is observed on Shivaratri day. On this day the deity is taken in a palanquin accompanied by drummers (Dollu and Majalu) from several neighbouring villages to the river. The deity is then worshipped.
