About:

Sivasamudram, also spelled as Shivanasamudra, is a scenic island town situated on the banks of the Kaveri River in Karnataka, India. Known for its mesmerizing waterfalls and hydroelectric power station, Sivasamudram is one of the most popular destinations for nature lovers and tourists seeking tranquility. It is famously home to the Shivanasamudra Falls, which is divided into two segments: Gaganachukki and Bharachukki Falls.

Monsoon season(during the month of July and August makes this waterfall swell to enormous proportion, when the river Kabini floods along with Cauvery creating a waterfall perhaps a thousand feet wide.The Hydro electric power stations is the first of its kind in Asia, in 1902, is still functional. It is been commissioned by the Diwan of Mysore, Sir K Seshadri Iyer. The first town to receive the electricity from this station is Kolar Gold Fields, hence Kolar become the first town in Asia to get hydro electricity.

Sivasamudram is located in the Mandya district of Karnataka, approximately 130 km from Bangalore and about 60 km from Mysore. The falls are part of the Kaveri River and are surrounded by lush greenery and rocky cliffs, offering panoramic views of the cascading waters.

Summer: (March to May) – Warm and dry, with temperatures ranging from 25°C to 35°C. Monsoon: (June to September) – Receives heavy rainfall, making it the best time to view the waterfalls at their peak. History of Sivasamudram:

Sivasamudram holds historical significance as the location of Asia's first hydroelectric power station, established in 1902. This plant was instrumental in supplying electricity to Bangalore and other parts of Karnataka. The region has been mentioned in ancient Indian texts, and the falls have long been a part of local folklore. Sivanasamudram (aka Sivasamudram) is a nice waterfall near Malavalli, Mandya district. Situated in a rocky terrain with traces of vegetation, Its - 160 Kms. From Bangalore / 85 Kms from Mysore The waterfall is around 50meters tall on River Kaveri (Cauvery) and is a beautiful sight, especially during monsoon. Shivanasamudra has India's first Hydro - Electric Power Station which was set up in 1902. River Cauvery cascades down in two picturesque waterfalls into a 75 Mts. deep Rocky gorge.
