SRIRANGAPATNAM

TOMB OF HYDER ALI AND TIPU SULTAN(1799/ RAJPUT)

The river Kaveri surrounds Srirangapatnam , which is 16 km north of Mysore.it was the capital of Muslim Mysore kingdom, which was at loggerhead with the English and the Mysore king. East of the city is the Gumbaz 9 tomb) of Tipu Sultan who died fighting the British and his father Hyder Ali . the design resembles the Golcinda Tombs.

JAMI MASJID ( FRIDAY MOSQUE) (1787 / ISLAMIC)

Built by Tipu Sultan. It looks like there is fence surrounding it., but the courtyard is on the second floor. But there is no dome on the prayer room. There are only two tall minarets. Hence the outside impression is different fron that of the other mosque. The minarets are finished in plaster and delicately decorated in arabesque and geometric pattern.
