The Kumaradhara River is a scenic river located in the Western Ghats of Karnataka, India. Known for its pristine waters, dense forests, and rocky riverbeds, the river is a popular destination for nature lovers, adventure seekers, and pilgrims. The river flows through the region’s thick forests and is particularly famous for flowing near the holy town of Kukke Subramanya, where it is considered sacred by Hindu devotees.

Kukke Subrahmanya is about 105 Km from Mangalore, the head quarters of Dakshina Kannada District. Kukke Subrahmanya is situated on the banks of river Dhara, which originates in the Kumara Parvatha (mountain) and proceeds towards western sea. It is also called as 'Kumaradhara River'.

Location info:

The Kumaradhara River originates in the Western Ghats near the Pushpagiri Hills in the Kodagu district of Karnataka and flows through the Dakshina Kannada district. It is close to the town of Kukke Subramanya, a prominent pilgrimage site dedicated to Lord Subramanya. The river eventually joins the Netravati River near Uppinangady.

Climate/Weather:

Summer (March-May): Warm and slightly humid, with temperatures ranging from 25°C to 35°C. Monsoon (June-September): Heavy rainfall due to the monsoon, causing the river to swell and become vibrant. The lush green surroundings are a sight to behold during this season. Winter (October-February): Cool and pleasant, with temperatures between 15°C and 28°C, making it an ideal time to visit the river and surrounding attractions.

History:

The Kumaradhara River holds religious significance, especially among Hindu devotees, as it flows near Kukke Subramanya Temple. The temple, dedicated to Lord Subramanya, is revered as a sacred site where devotees seek blessings for protection against ailments and negative forces. The river is considered purifying, and many pilgrims take a ritual bath in its waters before visiting the temple.

In the Treta-yuga, Lord Parasurama came to this place and bathed in the River Dhara in order to absolve himself of the sins of exterminating the kshatriya-race twenty one times over.

It is believed that Kumaradhara is most efficient place of remedy for elimination the sufferers from even the most incurable diseases.
